Visualise large data sets

Gain an insight into your possibilities with the BI software Apache Superset®. We have compiled extracts from the offer for you.

Apache Superset®

Originating from a project at Airbnb in 2015, Superset was adopted by the Apache® Software Foundation (ASF) in 2017. Since 2021, the software - now known as Apache Superset® - has become one of the ASF’s most successful projects.

Apache Superset® is a modern and lightweight business intelligence software designed for visualising and analysing large data sets, extending into the Big Data domain. It is ideal as an independent BI software for the visualisation layer in an Open Source Modern Data Stack, making it suitable for both the private sector and public administration.

The software is continuously developed, with over 1,000 contributors actively working to improve it. With a focus on short time-to-value, the software undergoes rapid and thoroughly vetted advancements.

Operation

The web-based tool comes equipped with many graphical templates and an intuitive user interface, making programming-free report creation and operation particularly easy for the users. Due to intelligent database caching mechanisms, users experience a high-performance frontend, allowing them to dive straight into data analysis.

An integrated and customisable permission structure ensures smooth functionality even in larger corporate contexts and across various departments. This way, users can only access the data and reports they are authorised to view.

Technical details

Apache Superset® is a pure Open Source product with an extremely strong community. The architecture has been specially designed to make the application scalable and efficient to use in large, distributed environments. The platform can be installed locally on a Linux server or using Docker containers. This allows the software to be used in a variety of scenarios, such as local installations or operation in a cloud environment.

Apache Superset® offers comprehensive integration options with various systems. The Python-based tool supports a variety of SQL-compatible databases, including MS SQL, PostgreSQL and Snowflake. Seamless integration with leading authentication backends such as database authentication, OpenID, LDAP, OAuth, REMOTE_USER, etc. is also provided.

Furthermore, the tool provides a lean semantic layer which allows data analysts to quickly define custom dimensions and metrics.

Apache Superset® can be extended with your own visualisation plug-ins as well as adapted to individual programming via its own API.

The software is already widely used in many companies. At Airbnb, for example, it runs within Kubernetes and serves over 600 active users every day, displaying over 100,000 charts per day.

Apache® Software Fundation

The Apache® Software Foundation (ASF) is a non-profit organisation founded in 1999 from the Apache Group and based in the USA.

The ASF develops and promotes its own Apache® software projects, of which there are now several hundred. The best-known projects include Apache Hadoop®, Apache Cassandra®, Apache Tomcat® and Apache Spark®.

The organisation focuses on the development of Open Source Software in order to make it available to the public as a result. This is also the basic idea behind the ASF guiding principle: We believe in the power of community over code - known as The Apache Way.

The Apache® Software Foundation ASF is a non-profit organisation funded by individual donations and corporate sponsors. It is run almost entirely by volunteers who support hundreds of projects. Collaboration and decision-making within the projects have enabled strong community development of the software. This type of collaboration is now considered the industry standard in software development.
